Hello hello! Happy Thanksgiving Week for my US readers! Safe travels if you're visiting family or friends out-of-state. Best Techniques for Smoothing Out and Removing Glitter *updated 8/11/22*

Noodles Nail Polish is all about the glitter, all the time. While we all love the bling, it can be a pain to remove. Oh, and it can be known to eat topcoat which leaves texture on the nail after it dries. If you are especially sensitive to feeling your polish, make sure your topcoat is a thick one, or apply a second coat of a thinner one. 

Instead of applying 2 coats of thick topcoat, several indie brands have come out with a product that you use after your last coat of polish and before your topcoat. These are generally thick and "fill in" the gaps left from the glitter. Here are several products I use and recommend (in no particular order):

1. Glitter Grabber from Glisten and Glow

2. Gelous from American Classics 

3. Smooth from Painted Phalanges (dries with a matte finish unlike the others)

4. Smooth Moves Glitter Smoothing Topper from KBShimmer

5. Ooh Smooth! Glitter Smoothing Mid-coat from Dreamland Lacquer

6. Smooth and Shine Duo from Esmaltes da Kelly (available through Polish Pickup some months)

I also use peel-off basecoats to make removal a breeze. I recommend UNT Ready for Take Off, Hit the Bottle Keepin' it Peel, or Black Dahlia Lacquer as they all work well (I am not affiliated with any site or brand...I'm just sharing the love). The UNT works better for my body chemistry as the Hit the Bottle will sometimes pop off during the day. It seems like the UNT has been harder to find lately, so there's always the Holo Taco one if you really need one. If you want your polish to last a little longer, I completely understand. In that case, the foil method will work best for you when you're ready for a change. Clips like these are cheap and great for keeping the cotton balls in place. Noodles Nail Polish Cocoa & Cream (3 coats)

We're starting off with one of my favorites from the collection which is Cocoa & Cream. It's a light brown/taupe crelly base with white matte circular and hexagonal glitters and a touch of very fine pale gold metallic glitters. It's amazing how close this color reminds me of hot chocolate that has had some whipped cream that melted into it. My husband is a big hot chocolate drinker, and we tend to have some on hand all year round. This one was fairly sheer, and needed 3 coats for full opacity, and dried with lots of texture from the glitters. It's totally worth it though. 

Noodles Nail Polish Holiday Dress (2 coats)

It's rare that we get a scattered holo from Noodles, so I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. Holiday Dress is a cranberry red base that shifts from copper/green with a light scattered holo finish with fine gold holo glitters. Don't worry, when she said fine gold glitters, she means it. You don't need a glitter topcoat with this one, and it applied flawlessly in just 2 coats. 

Noodles Nail Polish Jingle Berry (3 coats)

I'm still trying to figure Jingle Berry out! Natalie describes it as a soft maroon base with blue/purple/red shifting shimmer, copper/red metallic and holo glitters, and a touch of silver holo flakes. I think the amount of shifty shimmer in here throws my eye off because I was shocked to find that it was a maroon base. Am I the only one? Either way, I love the blue/purple combo with the coppery red glitter. It's not an expected color combination, but that's what Natalie does best. It dried with lots of texture, so either use 2 coats of topcoat, or a glitter topcoat followed by a quick-dry topcoat. 

Noodles Nail Polish Miss Mistletoe (3 coats)

Continuing on we have another top pick from the collection, and that's Miss Mistletoe. It's a light mint green crelly base with white matte and red/green metallic glitters in hexagonal shapes. This is one of those polishes that can need 2 or 3 coats depending on how you apply it. I used really thin coats, so I went ahead with 3 coats, but you could get away with 2 if you use a heavier hand. It does dry with lots of texture, so bust out that glitter topcoat. It's the holidays in a bottle. 

Noodles Nail Polish Oh Snap! (1 coat) over 2 coats of Zoya Envy

We got 2 glitter toppers in this set! Natalie has been really nailing it with these this year (pun intended!), and these are no different. Oh Snap! is a clear based topper with red/gold/green color-shifting flakes and bronze/red/caramel/copper/gold/green metallic glitters in hexagonal shapes. I went ahead and applied it over a dark green base, but I think it would work well with a wide variety of earthy shades. It is really glitter dense, so you may be able to get it mostly opaque in 3 coats, but don't quote me on that. Dabbing motions worked best to spread the glitter out, but there's so much in there, you don't need to flip the bottle over or do any glitter fishing. 

Noodles Nail Polish Ribbon Candy (2 coats)

Ribbon Candy is our classic white glitter crelly from the collection! Question: do you like ribbon candy? It's hard to find these days, but when we see it at the store, we stock up because my husband loves it (and also that old-person Brach's old-fashioned hard candy). Ribbon Candy is a white crelly base with green/red/pink glitters in matte/metallic/holo finishes. This is another one that is the holidays in a bottle. There's just something about the addition of pink glitters that adds some visual depth from the red glitters. It needed just 2 coats for full opacity, and it did dry with texture from all the glitter. 

Noodles Nail Polish Snow Globe (1 coat) over 2 coats of Zoya Ryan 

The second glitter topper is Snow Globe which is a clear-based topper with white matte glitters and snowflakes, holo microflakes, and a touch of a scattered holo finish. I definitely recommend flipping the bottle upside down for a half hour before applying it to get the snowflakes to sink to the top of the bottle. I still had to fish a little bit for those snowflakes (there are a bunch in there!), but it's so worth it. I would apply one coat of polish and then immediately dip to find a snowflake and place it on the nail. 

Noodles Nail Polish Treat Yo Elf (3 coats)

Last, but certainly not least we have Treat Yo Elf which is a deep indigo jelly base with gold/silver/cherry holo glitters, and a mix of red/gold/green/lime/pink/copper color-fishing flakes. This one is insanely shiny and the holo glitters just pop. I don't think you'd be surprise to find out this is another favorite of mine. It's just so squishy and bright. It dries with a lot of texture, and tends to eat topcoat, so use a glitter topcoat if you can.
