China Glaze Hunger Games 2012 Collection: Agro

China Glaze Agro (2 coats)

Hola! How was your day? I spent a portion of mine trying to find a way to get these Nalgene bottles to hold a vacuum. I know absolutely nothing about compression tube fittings, so dealing with this has been quite a challenge. I wish I could go to a store and hand them over an example and have them just get what I need, bu alas, this is not possible. Of course Lowe's or Home Depot doesn't have items like these. Sorry for the rant! :-D

I love you, Argo! I love your olive green color that has lots of gold shimmer. This is another shade I will rock through fall, for sure. Anyone know why this one is called Argo? I know it has to do with Jason and the Argonauts, but I didn't get the reference to the Hunger Games. I'm dumb, and spelled the polish wrong. Thanks for correcting me, Barilla! Apparently it's for the agriculture district.

China Glaze Hunger Games 2012 Collection: Electrify

China Glaze Electrify (3 coats)

I don't want Monday to come! I want to sit at home all day watching the Olympics. I'm just curious how people who work downtown London deal with the Olympics going on. Do they just live at work for those 2 weeks?

Electrify is chock-full of gold and red glitter suspended in a clear base. I was really worried about the opacity of the glitter, and I was happy that it mostly covered the nail in 2 coats and completely covered in 3 coats. If you don't want to apply coat after coat, you can always use it as a glitter topcoat. The formula was really awesome and didn't get that chunkiness you sometimes get with packed glitters. I like this one!

China Glaze Hunger Games 2012 Collection: Harvest Moon

China Glaze Harvest Moon (2 coats)

Who's watching the Olympics? This girl definitely is! I've been watching MSNBC because they often have some of the things they often don't show on regular NBC. Just this morning I was watching archery and it was so awesome (USA beat S. Korea).

Continuing on with the Hunger Games collection is Harvest Moon which is a metallic copper shimmer that really glows. I will definitely be wearing this one during the fall, which is a bit strange that this was a spring collection. The formula was a little thin and only needed 2 coats. I'd definitely recommend this shade from the collection if you don't have it.

China Glaze Hunger Games 2012 Collection: Riveting

China Glaze Riveting (2 coats)

It's almost the end of yet another work week. I feel like I've had a pretty productive week, so I'm looking forward to a nice weekend. The only plans we have is a dinner date with some friends on Saturday.

I know, I know, the China Glaze Hunger Games collection came out ages ago, but I just bought some of them for cheap at Sally's recently. I hope you don't mind a few more pictures of them. I could go on and on about the movie and books, but I'll leave that for another post. Riveting is a gorgeous polish. Seriously, if you want something flashy, pick this one up. It is a bright orange polish with tons of gold glitter. It was extremely opaque and almost had full coverage in 1 coat (I always do 2 coats no matter what). The formula was slightly watery, but controllable.

Jessica Cosmetics Awakening Spring 2012 Collection: Flutter

Jessica Cosmetics Flutter (2 coats)

Well, my husband and I have finally given up on True Blood. We've slowly been disappointed with each season and we could hardly even stay awake watching the current season. Despite this, I have become a huge fan of the new show The Newsroom with Jeff Daniels. Have you seen it yet? Weirdly enough, the sister of a girl I was friends with in high school is a producer for the show. I had no clue until the closing credits!

Flutter is the final polish from the Awakening collection and is a taupe creme with a hint of grey. Again, it's not the most unique color, but if you want a go-to color, Flutter is definitely one to get. I don't, however, really get the name for it. When I hear flutter, I don't think of taupe. Oh well, I'm probably reading into it a bit too much. The formula was just so-so and it felt like it took a long time for this one to dry.

Jessica Cosmetics Awakening Spring 2012 Collection: Monarch

Jessica Cosmetics Monarch (2 coats)

Hola! Did you have a good weekend? Mine was fine. I'm really happy I've been able to relax the last few weekends so I am always refreshed for the work week ahead. I dropped by Sally Beauty Supply yesterday to find another 50% clearance item sale and was able to snag a Finger Paints, 2 China Glaze Prisms, and 3 China Glaze Hunger Games polishes for $10.60!

I wore Monarch the weekend I went to Vermont, and I was so happy I did because it went with all the outfits I wore. It's a neutral grey creme that looks great on the nail and is definitely another keeper from the collection. The application was again slightly thick, but manageable.

Jessica Cosmetics Awakening Spring 2012 Collection: Wing It

Jessica Cosmetics Wing It (2 coats)

Why hello there Wing It! Aren't you the odd polish out for the collection? Here we have 5 extremely neutral/muted shades, and then we end up with you. That's ok, I love it! Wing It is an orange/coral shimmer that leans toward a frost. It's not too frosty because I didn't really have any brushstroke problems, but it still has that frosty feeling. The formula was a little thick, but nothing too annoying. What do you think of Wing It?

Jessica Cosmetics Awakening Spring 2012 Collection: Sunrise

Jessica Cosmetics Sunrise (2 coats)

Happy Friday! As some of you may notice, I often don't post on Fridays, but I'm stuck at work with a bad thunderstorm going on so I figured I may as well post a polish. I find that Sunrise is an unexpected name for this one because it doesn't remind me a lot of a sunrise. It does, however, remind me a lot of Silly Putty! It has that soft pink creme color to it that I really like. Application and formula had no issues as well.

Jessica Cosmetics Awakening Spring 2012 Collection: Soar

Jessica Cosmetics Soar (2 coats)

Woot, Dollish Polish had a restock that included the Mario Collection and I was able to snag a couple of them! I have the worst luck in getting Indie brand polishes because the restocks are usually crazy (yup, I'm looking at you Llarowe). Getting polishes shouldn't be so stressful so don't even get me started on the Lynnderella drama. If you don't know what I'm talking about-good! Keep it that way because it is ridiculousness.

Soar is a beige creme polish. Yup, that's about it. You probably already own a neutral like this, right? Me, too. I like it, but it's not exciting. Not every day needs to be full of glitz and glitter though.

Jessica Cosmetics Awakening Spring 2012 Collection: Sky High

Jessica Cosmetics Sky High (2 coats)

Have any of you been watching America's Got Talent? I'll be honest, I never watched the show until Howard Stern was on there. For many years I was a hater of him, but as he has aged, I've become a big fan. I'm still trying to figure out who might stay from last night. Any guesses? I feel really bad that the balancing guy fell off  :-(

Ok, back to polish talk. Are you ready for a break from the bright summer colors, because if so, you're going to love the Jessica Cosmetics Awakening collection. Up first I have Sky High which is a light blue creme with just a hint of grey. I absolutely adore this color, and it may be my favorite of the collection. The application was smooth sailing and I'm glad to have it as a part of my stash.

Oh, and I'm on Instagram now! I'll be showing random pictures of my nails, my cats, my science, etc. so if that interests you, look me up, I'm rightonthenail.

Indie Brands- Pahlish: Glittoris

Pahlish Glittoris (2 coats) over Jessica Cosmetics Enchante (1 coats)

I spent the day in the field for work today and I got a bit too much sun, despite wearing sunscreen. I just slathered myself in aloe so I should be feeling much better soon.

I heard good things about the indie brand Pahlish, so I ended up getting a couple polishes a few weekends ago (she usually restocks on Friday evening...check out the Facebook page for more info). Up first we have Glittoris (whoa, name!) which is a pink base with multi-colored glitter (I can see holographic, red, purple, blue and bar glitter). I absolutely adore it, and it reminds me a lot of Jem. Do you remember Jem from the 80s? I have a Jem doll at home whose earrings still flash! That show was amazing. Anyway, I found it was best to dab this on to spread out the glitter. You can snag this polish during the next restock for $9.00.

Essence Colour & Go: A Lovely Secret

Essence A Lovely Secret (2 coats)

Whew, my husband and I spent a part of the weekend working out and I am exhausted. I could definitely afford to lose about 5 pounds (heck, even 10), but getting back into working out is depressing. I used to run 5 miles a day, and now 2 miles wears me out.

So I'm not 100% happy with this caviar nail art. The silver just doesn't go well with A Lovely Secret. The polish, however, is really beautiful. It's a periwinkle color with loads of purple shimmer in there. It still shocks me that their polishes are only $0.99! When I go to Ulta, they are usually pretty picked over because they are in such demand.

Jessica Cosmetics Bliss is This! Bridal Collection: Desire

Jessica Cosmetics Desire (2 coats)

Thank goodness it's the weekend! I just got up from a long nap and I'm feeling great! The past month I've been busy all weekends, and this is the first relaxing one in a awhile. I hope you're having a relaxing one, too.

Desire is the last of the Bridal Collection, and it just so happens to be my least favorite. It's a berry creme that isn't very original and doesn't really remind me of weddings. I dunno, maybe I'm wrong. There's nothing wrong with it, but it just doesn't get me excited about polishes. On the bright side, the application and formula was pretty awesome. Oh well, the other two from the collection are nice.

Jessica Cosmetics Bliss Is This! Bridal Collection: Love Story

Jessica Cosmetics: Love Story (3 coats)

It's almost Friday! Woot! I am slightly disappointed in my photography skills for this polish because Love Story is not quite as bright as it appears in my pictures. It is much more like the bottle color which is a light cantaloupe jelly. You guys know my love/hate relationship with jellies, but it was pretty much completely opaque with 3 coats. Be careful to use thin coats and be aware of streaking. I like this one a lot-it's definitely the most unique of the collection.

Jessica Cosmetics Bliss Is This! Bridal Collection: Flirtation

Jessica Cosmetics Flirtation (2 coats)

Whew, it's Wednesday already? I spent the day extracting DNA from my Cambodian bacteria and attempted to carry too much stuff down stairs and almost took a terrible fall. I ended up breaking 1 tube of DNA, but my ego took the brunt of the fall.

Wedding season is in full swing (I've been to 2 so far...how many have you been to?) and Jessica Cosmetics released a tiny 3-piece collection of polishes perfect for your wedding day. Flirtation is a beautiful medium pink creme that looks good on almost anyone. It doesn't blow me away, but it's a nice classic color. The best part of Jessica polishes is definitely the application which is smooth and buttery in 2 coats (usually).

Orly Dark Shadows 2012 Collection: Buried Alive

Orly Buried Alive (2 coats)

I'm back from Vermont! Actually, I came back early yesterday, but I was too exhausted to blog last night. We attended my husband's cousin's wedding and it was beautiful. The ceremony was outside a vineyard and the reception was in a restored barn. On Sunday the family went to the Shelburne Museum where we saw lots of interesting exhibits (from creepy old dolls, retired circus memorabilia, to original Monet paintings). At the museum we also saw the dark-haired, skinny guy from the Drew Carey show (his name is Diedrick Bader), but we didn't want to bother him. It was a great weekend, and I wish I had more time to spend there.

The second polish from the Dark Shadows collection is Buried Alive which is a pretty brown shimmer with hints of gold. Out of this whole collection, this one is definitely my favorite of the bunch. Despite not being a stereotypical summer color, I was happy to rock this a few weeks ago. The application and formula was slightly thick, but overall fine.

Orly Dark Shadows Collection: Mysterious Curse

Orly Orly Mysterious Curse (2 coats)

Orly Royal Velvet (2 coats)

Well well well. It appears as though I have a dupe on my hands. I hate when companies rerelease polishes with a different name to get more money (I'm looking at you OPI...with your "Ulta exclusive" colors). Orly already came out with this blue/purple color with blue shimmer last year called Royal Velvet. Can you see much of a difference between Royal Velvet and Mysterious Curse? No? Me either. Oh well, live and learn. Good thing I only paid $2 for it.

I didn't see Dark Shadows when it was released. Was it any good?
