Color Club Scent-suous Holiday 2011 Scented Nail Polish Collection: Very Merry Berry

Color Club Very Merry Berry (1 coat) over Mattese Elite Fantasias (2 coats)

I bought Very Merry Berry months ago, but I just couldn't find the right color to put it over. I finally settled on putting over Fantasias and I am finally happy with it. The Scent-suous collection came out at Sally's Beauty Supply this holiday season and featured 6 scented polishes. Of course, Very Merry Berry smelled of berries, but it was quite faint to my nose. It contains large hexagonal purple glitter with various sized blue glitter in a clear base. It was fairly opaque, so you may be able to make this one fully cover the nail. I like it, it sort of reminds me of the 80s for some reason. I'm not sure if you can find these anymore, but hopefully Color Club comes out with some more fun glitters.

Mattese Elite Carnaval Collection: Fantasias

Mattese Elite Fantasias (2 coats)

I have another Mattese Elite polish to show and it's a neon purple called Fantasias. I tried everything for this one to show up correctly, but as usual, my camera would not cooperate with this purple. It is much more purple than the blue shown above. I think this one is a definite keeper and it had great application and formula.

Mattese Elite Carnaval Collection: Rainha

Mattese Elite Rainha (2 coats)

Hello again! I hope all is well with you! Rainha is a bright baby pink creme that is a lot of fun. It's not the most unique color, but it applied like a dream and was very opaque. You can find these online for $5.99 here or at your local Rickys in NYC.

Parisian Beauty: Emerald

Parisian Beauty Emerald (3 coats)

Do you have a Belk in your neck of the woods? My parents were there and found a new set of polishes from a company called Parisian Beauty. The set is full of glass-flecked polishes such as Emerald which is a green color with gold flecks. It reminds me a little of a darker Zoya Apple. The application was a bit thin, but it was easy to work with. It was a bit sheer and needed 3 full coats for full coverage.

Julep Nail Polish: Jodie

Julep Jodie (2 coats)

I just want to mention that the polishes in my latest Julep Maven box had a different brush and it was terrible. T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E. It is huge and is very mop-like. The ends are also not even so I couldn't get the polish on around my cuticle. I should probably e-mail them and mention it to them. Was it just me, or did any of you have issues?

Jodie is a really nice rose color with tons of gold shimmer. Not earth-shattering, but it is really pretty nonetheless. It had their usual skinny brush so the application was just fine.

Zoya Spring 2012 Fleck Effect Collection: Chloe

Zoya Chloe (2 coats) over Butter London Primrose Hill Picnic (2 coats)

Chloe comes from the Fleck Effect Collection and features three different color flakie polishes. I actually bought this one at Ulta, but they always have a limited variety of polishes. Chloe stood out to me the most because it has a better variety of colors (pink, green and gold flakes) where the others only have 1 or 2. I was hoping I'd be able to wear it alone, but unfortunately it is completely sheer and needed a couple coats of polish underneath. I paired it with Butter London's Primrose Hill Picnic which comes from their Lippy collection (I'll show you a swatch of it alone in the near future).

Julep Nail Polish: Elizabeth

Julep Elizabeth (2 coats)

I leave for Cambodia tomorrow! I am sitting here working on posts to show while I'm gone so you'll at least get to see a few polishes while I'm gone.

Elizabeth reminds me a bit of Zoya Indigo, although I don't know similar they truly are. It's a deep navy shimmer polishes that can look almost black in some lights. It's a nice color, but I think it's a little too dark to be a favorite of mine. Application was thick and manageable, and barely needed 2 coats.

Wish me luck on my trip! I hope all is well with you while I'm gone!

SinfulColors Polish: Hazard

SinfulColors Hazard (2 coats)

Hi guys, quick post tonight because I'm trying to get things done before I leave. I am watching Louie C.K. Live at the Beacon and that man is so hilarious.

SinfulColors Hazard is a beautiful orange shimmer. I think this is one of my favorites from their main collection since it is so bright and I think it would make a nice pedi color this summer as well. The application was not the best with it having some streaking issues, but it was quite opaque needing only 2 coats.

China Glaze Spring 2012 Electropop Collection: Electric Beat

China Glaze Electric Beat (2 coats)

It's going to be a quick post today because it's been a hectic one. Can you believe I'm still not done with the Electropop collection? Despite not being too excited about the collection, I absolutely adore Electric Beat. Cornflower blue colors are always lovely and this one doesn't disappoint. It was nice to go back to opaque colors after the Sally Hansen Smooth & Perfect colors and Electric Beat had a wonderful formula and application. Just to warn you, it does dry a bit darker than the bottle.

Sally Hansen Smooth & Perfect Color + Care: Fog

Sally Hansen Fog (4 coats)

I'm not one to get political, but yesterday I was appalled by voters in North Carolina. Being a North Carolinian myself, I am quite disappointed in the results of the Marriage Amendment law. And no, this was not just a "gay marriage ban," but also had repercussions for other heterosexual couples as well. Hopefully with Obama finally changing his stance on the subject, it will get the ball rolling.

Onto a much lighter note, Fog is the final Smooth and Perfect color I have to show you and it's an off-white color with a golden pearl shimmer. As you can see, I had a bit of an issue with shrinkage, and this wasn't even with Seche Vite! While I think it's a nice, soft color, I'm not impressed with the application (again). That seems to be the issue with this set of polishes. Maybe it's the huge (and terrible) brush, but I just couldn't get thin coats.

Overall, I like the polishes, but I wish they were slightly more opaque with a change of brush.

Sally Hansen Smooth & Perfect Color + Care: Sea

Sally Hansen Sea (4 coats)

Sally Hansen Sea (4 coats) over Jessica Cosmetics Superstar (1 coat)

Hola! Sorry for my lack of updates, but I've been getting ready for my trip. I still can't believe I leave in exactly 1 week! I figured I should post a color for you guys in between packing and washing bottles :-D

Sally Hansen's Sea is a muted seafoam green color with a pearly shimmer finish. Again, 4 coats was needed for (mostly) opaque coverage. I like it, but I think I like the other colors in the collection better. To spruce it up a little, I added a coat of Jessica Cosmetics Superstar glitter topcoat that came from the Shine On holiday collection.  Unfortunately I don't think this collection is being sold anymore, but I thought I'd show it anyway. This one packs quite the glitter in 1 coat, for sure!

Sally Hansen Smooth & Perfect Color + Care: Dune

Sally Hansen Dune (4 coats)

There's nothing like getting out of bed after noon and having some cold pizza. I may try and go for a bike ride later this afternoon and then relaxing. I have a 20% off Sally Beauty Supply coupon I got in the mail so I may try and stop by there today.

Dune is another color from the Smooth & Perfect line that is a a nude color with some gold shimmer. If you like nudes, I think you will be in love with this one. I really like it, I find it makes a nice palette cleanser if you've been using a lot of bright colors or glitters. I forgot to mention the reason why I had a problem getting thin coats on the nail and that's because they have those huge tapered brushes on the bottles. I hate these brushes, and I find it hard not to get a huge amount of polish on the nail. Why won't they go back to a thinner brush?! If you don't mind a little visible nail line (VNL), you will only need to apply 2 coats.

Sally Hansen Smooth & Perfect Color + Care: Air

Sally Hansen Air (4 coats)

Hi everyone! I watched Avengers today and it was really awesome! I generally like superhero films (of course it depends on the film) and this one did not disappoint. It even had Jeremy Renner in it, and I am a huge fan. That guy has aged so well! It's not fair that people think men look better as they age.

Anyway, I have most of the polishes from the Smooth & Perfect Color + Care collection and the first one is Air. This is what Sally Hansen claims that it smooths ridges in the nails and promotes 20% more oxygen to reach the nails...whatever that means. It also has ginseng, camelia oil and lotus for stronger and healthier nails. All of the colors are extremely sheer, and I had to use 4 coats on most of them. If you want to make them opaque, definitely try to use thin coats or it will start to gum up. If you're into the sheer look, 2 coats will be fine. Air is a very light sky blue color with some shimmer if you look closely. I was also testing out the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Diamond Flash Fast Dry Topcoat  (in the black bottle) with these and it was disastrous. I am not a fan of this topcoat because it causes bubbling to occur on all polishes. No matter how thin I tried to make the coats, it would still bubble like crazy. I haven't talked about any topcoats recently, so I thought I'd mention this one.

Pens, Ink, Beer, and Books

Hello folks, Mr. Right on the Nail here.

I'm sure it comes as no surprise to you that both the Mrs. and I are really interested in color. She expresses that love here on her blog through nail polish. My color-fixation comes out in the form of fountain pens and fountain pen inks, and I've been encouraged to get my blog rolling as well. Thus: Pens, Ink, Beer, and Books. (Yeah, one day I'll get a more pithy moniker.)

I'm actually addicted to all sorts of office supplies and pens, but the heart of my fixation is ink. There are more different inks out there than you might believe (unless you're already into the fountain pen scene), and my blog gives you a new color or pen several days a week. You'll also find the occasional review of a book or a beer that I've found, but the focus is really on pens and inks now.

If you think you'd be interested in taking that color from your nails and letting it hit the page, come on over to my blog and I'll be showing you all sorts of inks and pens that will allow you to express yourself on the page in colors that are like nothing you're going to find in a Bic pen.

Come on over.  I look forward to seeing you there!

China Glaze Summer 2012 Crackle Glitters Collection: Gleam Me Up

China Glaze Gleam Me Up (1 coat) over Zoya Katy (2 coats)

Is it Thursday already? Now that the trip is coming up, I wish I had more time in the day to get things ready! Things are going fine otherwise. How are you doing? Summer is right around the corner and I bet a lot of you are planning some vacations, right? I think I'll be going to Vermont for a few days in July, but other than that, I've got nothing.

Gleam Me Up is the final crackle I have to show you guys, and I'd say it's my second favorite of the collection. It's a bright blue glitter that is dense enough for just one coat. I paired it with Zoya's Katy which I haven't worn in forever. I wore the crap out of the Oh-La-La collection back in the day (can you believe it was from 2009? Crazy!).  I know a lot of you are crackled out, but I'd give one of these polishes a chance. I liked them a lot more than I was expecting and it's a fun pop of color.
