Right on the Nail ~ Deborah Lippmann Swatches and Reviews: Chasing Pavements and Like Dreamers Do

I'm back, sort of. My flight back to NC was delayed 4 hours so I didn't get home until after 4 AM. There was a ton of socializing and work this week which has really exhausted me. Tonight I have a couple of polishes from the famous Hollywood manicurist Deborah Lippmann that I got on sale at the Sephora inside JC Penny.

Oh man, it's Monday again. And I know most of the country is freezing right now, so that makes it a thousand times worse. I hope you are all keeping warm and safe. 

I haven't shown many Revlon polishes lately (that will change in the future), and I know every single blogger has already reviewed this, but here are my swatches. The Parfumerie collection contains 16 brand new colors that are scented. Of course, Wintermint smells like mint (a sweet mint), but I didn't find it to be strong at all. The scent only lasts about a day and then it starts to fade. As I'm sure you know, this is a dupe for Deborah Lippmann's Mermaid's Dream (which I don't own), with a much better price tag. It is a frosty seafoam green color with gold microglitter and larger blue hexagonal glitter. The glitter was easy to get out, and the formula was ok; slightly thin, but that's usually a good thing with glitters. It dries a bit matte and dull, so I used a topcoat to smooth things out. I like this one, despite the somewhat frosty finish.

It's Glee time and I'm blogging! You may remember me posting about Lady Gaga on the cover of Vanity Fair wearing Deborah Lippmann's Waking Up in Vegas. I was able to get my hands on it, so here it is! It is a grey/taupe creme that seems to be the "it" color for Fall. That's probably the #1 question I get asked in real life when people find out that I am a nail blogger. "Hey Audrey, what are the new _____ (insert season) trends?" Well my friends, I think it is the greyed out taupes for fall! I don't mind one bit at all because I love how they look on my nails and they looked bangin on Lady Gaga! This one applied flawlessly, seriously. It was almost opaque in 1 coat, but I just always use 2 so that's what you see here. What's new with Deborah Lippmann

Leading fashion manicurist Deborah Lippmann is the go-to girl for Hollywood’s hottest nails! The nail polish trend-maker styled Lady Gaga’s nails for Vanity Fair’s September cover with Waking Up In Vegas. The putty-licious gray crèmeis a super-sultry rendition of the popular grey-nail look.

The first time the pair met, Lippmann applied Ruby Red Slippers to the popstar’s nails—an encounter that inspired bold new addition to the Deborah Lippmann line, Bad Romance. Lippmann set out to capture all the elements of Gaga’s larger than life persona in a bottle and thought “What would Gaga do?” The result? Bad Romance—a moody, dark yet brilliantly provocative glitter polish. The chunky sequin shade reflects Gaga’s signature statement-making style and the bold message of the namesake song.

During the September issue Vanity Fair shoot, Lippmann presented Gaga with the first bottle of Bad Romance and she couldn’t have been more appreciative to have a polish named after one of her songs.

Deborah Lippmann, you really hit a home run with this Fall Collection. As I've said time and time again, I'm not a huge fan of straight black polishes, but Bad Romance is a black jelly base with large and small hexagonal glitter pieces throughout which really lightens up the polish. When you look at the bottle, it seems much lighter than on the nail, but that's not a bad thing in the case of this one. Instead of having the two different color glitters like Across the Universe, Bad Romance has only the purple (which has lots of pink undertones to it). As much as I loved Across the Universe, I honestly don't know which polish I prefer. They are just so unique! The application was absolutely flawless and I had no problems with the larger glitter pieces applying evenly. I'm still surprised these only need 2 coats! Some may be wondering about removal of these, and I am happy to report it's not a big deal at all. Compared to, say, OPI Mad as a Hatter polish, this is a cake walk. The only thing you may need to do with a couple of the larger glitter pieces is to take an orange stick and pry them off since some really adhere to the nail. Anyway, lovely polish and if you don't have these, definitely pick them up if you can. Again, like Across the Universe, these are a Nordstrom exclusive so you can find these there.

Deborah Lippmann: Across the Universe

Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe (2 coats)

Deborah Lippmann you are a genius. A GENIUS! From hearing the name of this polish (I love the Beatles and Fiona Apple versions) I was really excited about trying this one. I don't even know where to begin. This polish is just so fashion forward. It has green and blue large hexagonal glitter with loads of small blue glitter pieces. You may remember how I was saying that Zoya's Charla reminds me of a mermaid, well, so does this one. The large glitter rings true to mermaid scales. The base is a dark navy jelly that, despite being a jelly, is very opaque and only needed 2 coats which really surprised me! This was my first Deborah Lippmann polish, so I am quickly going to mention my overall thoughts on the bottle and brush. I am very happy with the bottle since it is square and has some detailed lines on it. I can't think of another brand with a similar bottle (correct me if I'm wrong). The brush is circular, not flat, and I had no problems with the application. If you are interested in this polish, it is a Nordstrom Exclusive and retails for $18. Overall, this is definitely in my top polishes of 2010!

Quirius: Home of the Brave and Another Lemming

Quirius Home of the Brave (3 coats Quirius with 1 coat of Fingerpaints Oh My Stars)

What an appropriate color for this weekend! The pictures of Home of the Brave with Oh My Stars on top are definitely more true to life than Home of the Brave on its own. It is a really dark blue creme that doesn't look black in any light (thank goodness). For some reason I thought that the glitter in Oh My Stars was much more spare, but alas I was wrong. I thought it would be cool to have the glitter seem like stars in the dark blue night...I know, really abstract stuff. Unfortunately it didn't really work, but I think it still looks pretty cool.

Oh Deborah Lippmann, why do you tempt me with your awesome Anniversary sets that are available only from Nordstrom? And why are you sooooo expensive? Here are the latest polishes that come out in July:
