Halal Nail Polish from 786 Cosmetics: Swatches and Reviews

Hi everyone! Was it a manic Monday for you? I'm delighted to say it wasn't a hectic Monday here. The weather the last couple weeks have been absolutely gorgeous. Fall always feels too short here in North Carolina, so I will relish cooler days. Tonight I have a very special post to share with you all. I believe everyone should be able to wear nail polish. I don't care about your race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation; if you want to wear nail polish, you should rock it! I'll admit that I was a bit uneducated about the difficulty Muslim people had in finding nail polish they could wear while practicing the religion. According to the Muslim faith, the entire body must be cleansed before performing the 5 daily prayers. Since traditional nail polishes form a physical barrier from water and oxygen, it would have to be removed before prayer and then reapplied. Who would want to continue to apply and remove polish so often? Not only that, all of the acteone needed to remove the polish would wreck havoc on your nails and cuticles. 

Despite there being over a billion Muslims, there are very few Halal nail polishes. When 786 Cosmetics contacted me about reviewing some of their polishes, I jumped at the chance. I was so curious how the polishes would differ from traditional polish. Since the polishes need to allow oxygen and water to pass through, I wanted to know how the application and wear compares to traditional polishes. The first time I remember hearing about a larger brand making halal polish was when Orly made their Breathable line a few years ago. I'm also really happy that 786 Cosmetics has included their water permeability certifications through the Kalamazoo Islamic Center and SGS Labs on their website. Whew, that's a lot of information, but it's information I think is important to know before getting to photos. The polishes retail for $12.95 each, and features cream, shimmer, and metallic finishes. Hi guys! It definitely feels like a Monday. My co-workers have to travel to Chicago for a pen show this weekend, but this is my one show off a year, so I get to stay home and relax with the animals. While I enjoy the shows, they are exhausting and a lot of work. It's been so (too?) long since we've heard from Amy at Literary Lacquers, so I'm happy to report that she's back with a brand new 7-piece collection filled with metallics, glitters, and flakies! I've never read any of these books, but the polishes have definitely piqued my interest. It appears to have 4 books in the series and is a mix of the romance and fantasy genres. Lollipop Posse Lacquer Summer 2017 Mix Tape: Overdrive Edition: But My Hands are Busy in the Air and She Lives On the Borderline

Hi guys! Tonight I have a new brand on the blog, and I've been meaning to try them for months. When I saw swatches from the Lollipop Posse Lacquer Summer 2017 collection I knew I had to get a couple. I ordered on August 8th and received my shipping notice on the 13th. When the package didn't move for over a week I went ahead and e-mailed them. Apparently three labels were misplaced and mine was one of them. Karen shipped the items the next day and gave me a 20% discount on my next order to make up for the delay. I must say, it was all handled quickly and professionally and I'll definitely be back to order more items. A+ for customer service. Now how are the polishes? 

Northern Star Polish July 2017 Polish Pickup Exclusive Swatches and Review: Shark Bite

Hi guys! Long time, no blog. Guess who has jet lag? San Francisco was nice...at least as much as I got to see of it. They say you need 24 hours per time zone change to readjust and I'm right in the middle of it. Tonight I have another exclusive polish from Polish Pickup which I mentioned a couple weeks ago. If you need a little refresher on how it works, follow the link here for more information. Northern Star Polish is run by Kristen and she's been making polish for years. Last year she took a long hiatus and this is her way of getting back into the polish game. She made some of my favorite cuticle oils, but it doesn't look like she's making those yet. On the bright side, Northern Star Polish is releasing another polish for September's Polish Pickup and you can see that here. 

I know, I know, Shark Bite isn't for sale anymore, but at least you can see a pretty swatch and learn a bit more for the pre-order which goes from 9/1-9/4. It's a teal blue cream base with fuchsia microglitter and aqua blue shimmer. It's extremely saturated, but I didn't have any issues with staining. That said, this is the type of color that may stain so don't forget your base coat! The formula was just perfect, and I needed just 2 coats for full coverage. Even with the microglitter, it does not dry textured so you can use pretty much any top coat you have around. This is supposed to be named after a drink, but I've never heard of a Shark Bite. Please tell me I'm not the only one! 

Obviously this has everything I love in a polish. Saturated color? Check. Contrasting shimmer/microglitter? Check. Good formula? Check. I'll definitely be purchasing a few polishes from this month's Polish Pickup and there's a good chance I'll get Take a Bite from Northern Star Polish. Hi guys, Happy Monday! I feel like I went a little overboard with buying polishes from Scofflaw Nail Varnish, but there was a sale (the biggest of the year from them, I believe) and I wanted to make shipping costs worth it. At least that's what I tell my wallet and my husband. Tonight I have the final 2 polishes I bought.

First I have a polish full of glitter called Maxwell Demon which is a peachy/pink crelly with purple, blue, and purple hexagonal glitter in different sizes. Is it just me or does this look like a berry patch? It's a busy polish, but in a good way. The creme/jelly base was fairly sheer, so I needed 3 coats for full coverage. Make sure you use thin coats because it can get thick otherwise. The next color is hands-down my favorite of the bunch. I wasn't expecting to love Wraith Pinned to the Mist as much as I did. It's an aqua blue polish with lots of fine purple, green, and blue shimmer and gold flakes. The flakes stand out more than the shimmers, but it just adds to the depth to the color. This was also a bit sheer, but there were no application or formula issues at all. Please get this one, you won't regret it!

Right on the Nail ~ China Glaze Summer 2013 Sunsational Collection Swatches and Review: Too Yacht Too Handle

When I was buying some of the China Glaze summer matte glitters, many of the cremes were already picked over, so I picked up a few from the 2013 Sunsational Collection. For some reason this was not on my radar at all in 2013, so I'm happy I was able to get some. Today I have Too Yacht To Handle (THE NAME!) is a very bright aqua blue creme that screams "It's summer, you should go swimming and get a tan!" I'm one of those lucky people who actually tans, but with the whole skin cancer thing I try to limit sun exposure as much as possible. I didn't realize at the time that China Glaze has many variations of this color, but that's fine, it's still a beautiful color that will look good on any nails. I had a bit of trouble applying this as any almost neon color pretty much applies streaky. I also found it to to drag on the nail so make sure to allow a couple extra minutes between coats.

For some reason I haven't really been into the latest China Glaze polishes. As a matter of fact, none of the collections really blew me away which is sad since they used to be my favorite brand. Hopefully 2015 brings pretty and unique polishes! I ended up only getting one polish from The Giver Collection and one from the Twinkle Collection. 

Anyway, it's the return of LOBSTER HANDS! Don't let him catch you or he will turn your hands red, too! I love these aqua creme polishes, but they make my camera go crazy. I received lots of praise for this on my Instagram (which you can find me at @rightonthenail) so I know this is a popular shade. And I have no idea about the movie this collection was released for. Did anyone actually see it? It may not be the most unique polish, but it is sure to catch some attention. I had no issues with formula or application in 2 coats. I did have a little bit of bubbling, but I'm pretty sure it was due to a new topcoat I was trying out. 

China Glaze Summer 2014 Off Shore Collection Swatches and Review: Wait N' Sea, If in Doubt, Surf It Out, Sun Upon My Skin

Wait N' Sea is an aqua blue creme. Perfect color for summer! The formula was a bit watery, but still only needed 2 coats.

If in Doubt, Surf It Out is a medium orange with yellow undertones. I feel we've seen this color a few times, but that doesn't stop me from still liking it. It was slightly streaky on the first coat, but evened out the second. 

China Glaze Sun Upon My Skin (3 coats)

Sun Upon My Skin is a yellow creme. It's a bit toned down which my pictures don't show-sorry! The formula was pretty much your standard for yellow-streaky and needed 3 coats.

Butter London Spring/Summer 2012 Collection Swatches and Reviews: Slapper and Trout Pout

Notice how short my nails are in these pictures? Yeah, that's how old these swatches are. I got these in a Christmas set called Glam Rock when there was a 20% off sale. The set isn't around anymore, but the colors are still in the core collection. These are mini bottles which are basically exact replicates of their regular sized bottles which is cool. 

Up first is Slapper, which is British slang for a loose woman. Yup, Butter London likes to keep it classy. Despite the name, the color is a beautiful aqua or teal creme that applied perfectly (not too thick and not too thin). I think I wore this a few days and added a glitter since I liked it so much. The second color is Trout Pout which is British slang for a person who has too many lip injections and has fish lips. I guess I could see this one since it's a color you could wear on your lips (and they do have a lip gloss of the same name!). Anyway, Trout Pout is a nice pink with some coral undertones. Very appropriate for this time of year, or any time of year really. This one also has a great formula and application, but I only kept it on for a day, so I guess I didn't like it as much as Slapper.
