Hello everyone! Tonight I have the first of several posts for upcoming polishes from Naps and Nails that will be available in the next week or so. Up first we have the shade from Hella Handmade Creations that will be available starting January 14th at 12:01 AM EST through January 21st @11:59 Hawaii time. New to HHC? It works similarly to Polish Pickup where there's a pre-order for exclusive polishes with themes chosen by the brands participating. As stated above, pre-orders open every month on the 14th @ 12:01 am Eastern time and closes on the 21st @ 11:59 pm Hawaii time. Yay, we have a magnetic polish! I haven't used one lately, so I had to remember how to do it properly. The Crooked Man is a blackened base with silver reflective glitter and a beautiful multi chrome magnetic pull that shifts from purple/blue/red. I went ahead and used 2 coats and used the magnet for each coat and worked on one nail at a time for the best pull. I also recommend a quick dry topcoat to really set those particles before they start to diffuse a bit. I bet this would look beautiful with other magnet shapes as well. I only used one coat of topcoat, and it dried with a smooth finish despite having reflective glitter.

Hi guys! Work has been insanely busy this week, so I'm really looking forward to the weekend. Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day tomorrow! My husband and I always go to IHOP for our Valentine's dinner because it's super low key and there's never a wait. It's basically a joke between us. Leesha's Lacquer OOAK of the Month Swatches and Review: Hypnotized

Leesha's Lacquer Hypnotized (2 coats)

Hi guys! I'm back again to show you a shade from Leesha's Lacquer that will be available tomorrow (Feb. 27th) at 6 PM CST in their website. This is a One of a Kind (OOAK) polish that will be made in a 16 oz batch and will be available in full-size bottles only for one time only. When they're gone, they're gone forever. Leesha's Lacquer is in the second year of this OOAK series and this month's polish is called Hypnotized. 

Hypnotized is a magnetic dark magenta base with a purple/gold/green shift. When the magnet is applied, the purple is pulled and and it darkens the base. The green and gold are most evident at extreme angles, while the magenta and purple are prominent straight on and in bright lighting. Even if you're not a huge fan of magnetic polishes, this one is still a beauty and you get that shift, just without the line. I used 2 coats for full opacity, and it applied easily. Here are my instructions on getting the best magnetic line on your polishes:

Yes, you will need a magnet to get the effect. If you don't have one, lots of brands or stockists carry them. For example, check out Lantern and Wren for a wide variety of types with good prices. To get the effect, I first applied my base coats and the first coat like normal. I then applied a thicker second coat to a single nail and quickly placed the magnet as close to my nail as possible for at least 45 seconds (or until my hand got tired) before moving on to the next nail. After all nails had 2 coats, I applied a quick-dry topcoat to each nail and placed the magnet over the nail again for about 15 seconds. It sounds like a long process, but it goes pretty fast once you get the hang of it.

Noodles Nail Polish Winter 2019 Collection Swatches and Reviews

Hi guys! It's been a busy week for the blog, and we're not done yet. Tonight I've got the Noodles Nail Polish Winter Collection to share with you. This is quite appropriate since so many people are experiencing the Arctic blast hitting the US this week. Please be safe, and make sure to take care of all your pets, too. The set consists of 5 crellies and 1 jelly polish (with a bonus re-release of last year's Eskimo Kiss...Natalie didn't have the recipe anymore, so she recreated it as version 2.0). These will release with the Valentine's Day duo on 2/1/19 at 6:00 PM ET on the new Noodles Nail Polish website. Emily de Molly Swatch and Review: Positive Contact

Hi guys! I hope you've had a good Hump Day. The week is flying by, despite being back from a short work week. Not much is going on here. I ordered a ton of items between Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, and some of them are making their way to me. One of these items is a new Tuft & Needle Mint mattress which was delivered today. I can't wait to see how we like it! Do any of you out there have one? Tonight I've got a magnetic polish from Australian indie brand Emily de Molly. I have a very strong "c" curve to my nail, so the magnetic line is a little more diffused on the sides compared to those with flatter nails. 

I applied my base coats and the first coat like normal. I then applied a thicker second coat to a single nail and quickly placed the magnet as close to my nail as possible for at least 45 second (or until my hand got tired) before moving on to the next nail. After all nails had 2 coats, I applied a quick-dry topcoat to each nail and placed the magnet over the nail again for about 15 seconds. It sounds like a long process, but it goes pretty fast once you get the hang of it. Positive Contact drew me in from the photos on the Emily de Molly website so you should check them out. It flashes between rose gold, blue, and purple depending on the angle. This one is definitely more beautiful in person. If you have flatter nailbeds, the magnetic line will likely be more striking. 

I'm very particular with the magnetic polishes I purchase and I don't have anything like Positive Contact in my expansive collection. If you don't mind a little extra work in applying your polish, I definitely recommend this one. It is available now for $10 (without the magnet). Tonic Nail Polish June 2018 Releases Swatch and Review: Jubilee (magnetic)

Hi guys! Magnetic multichrome polishes have been all the rage lately, and I'm just now jumping on the bandwagon. I've resisted all releases until Tonic came out with Jubilee, shown above. I tried my first Tonic polishes last year and I found the formula to be thicker than I preferred. They've had polishes that interested me, but I held off because of the formula. After I saw swatches from the Tonic June releases, I finally bit the bullet again. 

Jubilee has the same base pigment as Peacock Parade, a shade they released previously. It flashes blue/green/purple/pink/gold, depending on the angle. I had to purchase the magnet separately ($2) because this is the first magnetic polish I've used in several years. Applying Jubilee is different than other polishes. After your preferred basecoat, apply one coat and let dry for an extra minute. For the second coat, you'll need to work one nail at a time, applying one thicker coat, and then placing the magnet as close to the nail as possible for about 30 seconds. I left it over the nail as long as possible to get a good line. My nails are very curved, so I was curious how well the magnet would work. As you can see, it worked pretty well....except for the pinkie nail. For some reason the particles scattered a little more on that nail. As for the formula, I'm very happy to say that it was much easier to apply than my other Tonics. It's still slightly thick, but in a good way. I think there will be more Tonics in my future.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Polishes: Graphite Gravity

Hi everyone, I hope your weekend is going well, now we know there is no apocalypse! I had dinner with my  immediate family which was really nice (and it was pizza Friday!). Do you have any fun plans?

Graphite Gravity is the last magnetic polish I have to show you and it's a darkened charcoal grey color. There are 2 different grey polishes in the collection (the other being Silver Elements) which I think is a little overkill for 1 collection. I think if I had to choose between this one and Silver Elements, I would choose Silver Elements because it has that shimmer I love. 

Overall, this is a nice magnetic polish collection, but by no means do you need to buy all of them. My picks would be the polishes with the shimmer in them, as well as Red-y Response.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Polishes: Golden Conduct

Man, I really thought Miss Philippines was going to win last night. I know, it sounds weird that I'm a bit disappointed that Miss USA won, but I thought Miss Philippines was more of a natural beauty. Oh well, 2nd place isn't shabby. 

I only have 2 more magnetic polishes to show you, and the first one is Golden Conduct which is a golden bronze shimmer. It it pretty similar to yesterday's polish (Kinetic Copper), but I actually like Kinetic Copper more. This one is ok, but I think it's my least favorite one. 

It's almost Christmas-eek!

Happy Hump Day! I just got home, so it's been a long day. I think my evening will consist of watching the Miss Universe Pageant which should be interesting. 

I often find nail polish names to be a bit ridiculous (I'm looking at you Suzi from OPI!), but I'm really loving this one. I know, it must be the scientist in me. Anyway, this one is a copper shimmer that is just perfect for this time of year. Oh, and it also has that shimmer that I love.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Polishes: Red-y Response

Hola! I've been working my butt off in Knoxville trying to get my samples done, so my apologies for the lack of posts. I'm not sure why Sally Hansen decided to call this one Red-y Response because it is more of a plum/raspberry color than red. Despite the lack of shimmer, I still really like this one a lot. You guys can probably tell I'm not that great at nail art, so magnetic polishes are the closest thing you can get. I really wish I was more creative!

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Polish: Silver Elements

Happy Sunday! I'm headed for Knoxville to do some lab work in my old lab and it's going to be a long day of driving. What did you do this weekend? 

The next Sally Hansen magnetic polish is likely my favorite one called Silver Elements that has that dark shimmer in the design which I love. Without the magnet, the polish looks like a regular old silver foil; It was such a pleasant surprise to find how it would look with the design. The formula and application is the same as the rest of them. If you have any questions, go ahead and look back a few days and it should be answered there.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Polishes: Ionic Indigo

What a sad day. I cannot believe what happened in Connecticut today, and it was such a senseless act. My prayers go out to everyone involved. 

Ionic Indigo is a blue indigo magnetic polish that has a lighter blue with darker blue/purple in the design. I don't think I liked this one as much as Electric Emerald based on the fact it lacks that shimmer in it. The magnet and formula was the same as yesterday's post.

Sally Hansen Magnetic Nail Polishes: Electric Emerald

I'm finally doing better! It was a pretty crappy few days, but I'm happy to be back. I hope you're not sick of magnetic polishes because I have some Sally Hansen ones to show. Up first is Electric Emerald which has both medium green and sparkly deep green in the stripes. I really like how the design showed up on the nail, despite the slight streaking I had due to impatience to put topcoat on. I found that all the polishes I have to review applied nicely; the formula was slightly thick, but that's a good thing with magnetic polishes. The magnet isn't the strongest, but it's fine. The one thing I wish Sally Hansen had was different magnet designs. All the polishes have the same magnet on them which gets a little repetitive. The magnet sits on a separate cap and has a cuticle rest so you don't smudge your nail on the magnet. One weird thing I had happen with at least 2 of the polishes was that the magnet fell off the cap and onto my nail! I just put a little nail glue on it and placed it back on and it was good as new. I would shake the cap a couple times before putting it against my nail just to be safe.

Julep Maven May Box: Kylie

Whew, I just spent the last 6 hours driving back from TN and I'm exhausted. Just starting out in Knoxville we hit a huge traffic jam with another one to follow in NC. Oh well, we finally got home. 

I believe this is the last of the Maven polishes I have to show and this one is different since it is a magnetic lacquer. I really hated the magnet on this, so I decided to skip it. I didn't feel that the magnet was very strong  and it was awkward to hold near the nail. It's a medium purple metallic shimmer that is very pretty. I think this is my favorite of the box.
